In the stories of our tīpuna, Ārohirohi is the atua of shimmering light and illusion — the mirage that dances in heat. She is the radiant wife of Tama-nui-te-rā, the Sun. From her brilliance, she shaped Mārikoriko, the first woman born of light and haze. To complete her creation, Ārohirohi called upon Paoro, the Echo, to gift Mārikoriko a voice.
